EITI Announcements

The report from the EITI Forum held in Kinshasa on 8-9 January has now been published. The Forum, organised by the EITI Committee of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in collaboration with the international EITI Secretariat, brought together stakeholders from all of the country to take stock of progress made with the EITI, and to discuss the way ahead for implementation.

On 22 February, DRC was admitted as an EITI Candidate Country.

A group of EITI Board members and supporters visited a gold mine that Newmont operates in Ahafo in northern Ghana. They also met with the Ahafo District Assembly.

Peter Eigen, EITI’s Chairman, was awarded the European Parliament’s Ethics and Business Award 2007 for Outstanding Individuals on 3 December 2007.

The award was given to Peter Eigen “for creating global awareness that corruption demoralises societies and misallocates resources, for building a global coalition against corruption in business and public life, and for promoting highest standards of accountability and good governance.”
