EITI Announcements
Peter Eigen, founder of Transparency International and Chairman of the EITI, received the prestigious Gustav-Heinemann Citizen Award 2007 of the German Social Democratic Party on 17 December 2007. The award is given yearly to individuals or organisations that have made significant contributions towards a free and just society.
European and African leaders met in Lisbon in 8-9 December 2007 for the Africa-EU Summit. In the Action Plan 2008-2010 that was decided, Europe and Africa commits to continue to promote the EITI.
US Lawmakers heard from extractive industry experts at a Congressional hearing on Wednesday, 25 October 2007 to discuss the debilitating impacts of the “resource curse” and policy measures that the US Congress can adopt to address it. PWYP USA has issued a report from this hearing, enclosed here.
In an Op-ed in the Jakarta Post 29 November, EITI Chairman Peter Eigen writes that joining EITI would be a natural fit to Indonesian President Yudhoyono's ambitious reform agenda. Also, the Initiative would in important areas stand to gain from Indonesia's joining.

Compliant Countries
To become Compliant, the country needs to complete validation process and meet all of the Validation Indicators. All Candidate countries must complete validation within two years.
