Governance Structure

In September 2006 an EITI Board was established with the responsibility for the overall development, strategic direction, and credibility of the EITI as well as for outreach and advocacy. The Board makes recommendations on these issues to a biennial EITI Conference, and is supported by a small EITI Secretariat. Membership of the Board reflects the multi-stakeholder nature of the EITI.

The Board 2006-2009 is chaired by Dr Peter Eigen, founder of Transparency International, and consists of members from countries, companies and civil society.

The international community provide support both bilaterally and through the EITI Multi-Donor Trust Fund managed by the World Bank. The Secretariat is funded by the supporting countries and the supporting companies. Implementing country governments, pay for the validation of their EITI process.
